By replacing naïve“empathy” or naïve“faith” with exact “scientific observation”, we are merely shifting our perspective. In relation to animals, this means that the epistemological naivety of evaluating animals according to human feelings is replaced by the epistemological naivety of evaluating animals according to human scientific methodology.

 

The insights of the natural sciences are subject to typical human experience. The knowledge corresponds to the conditions at a certain time in a certain knowledge situation. What “science” considered completely unquestionable 200 years ago, we shake our heads at today…

Humans are only capable of recognizing what the apparatus that has developed in evolution allows them to recognize.
